If there is going to be a second season it probably should have went into or at least been announced as in production now.
No news is not good news in this case.

I did not like "Deutschland 83" but I would have liked it to succeed and get another season since it was done more professional and ambitious than usual TV shows. Just for the cause that it might have helped to release similar projects.
But in Germany the TV market is very unpredictable. I think the most sure shot is to do shows that are marketed for people over 40 or 50 years; cheesy shows about doctors, hotels and so on and easy-going crime shows. There are a lot beep shows like this that go over the course of 10-20 years.
The only thing were is some quality (and not always) are usually mini-series or dramas with multiple episodes. This is often working, but there only rare cases of longer running high quality TV series.

I can assure you this is absolutely the case! The big problem for the show last year in Germany was going head to head with the German version of The Voice.

I have no idea what constitutes the current state of "hit" TV shows in Germany right now, but if D83 wasn't a success there, it makes me sad to think that German TV audiences probably (mostly) watch the same kinds of crap shows that are successful in the U.S.

Actually the lack of concrete details in the 8 months since those stories has me concernedespecially considering the very lukewarm reception in Germany.

Well that's good to hear. I'm glad my Neilsen box contributed in its own small way to getting this show renewed!
