In the depiction of Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke in The Crown, Hawke is shown as a republican who was determined to make Australia as soon as possible.
While the real Hawke was a republican he however did not make Australia a republic, a first-order priority whilst as Prime Minister.
Hawke was pragmatic on when Australia should become a republic.
It seems that Peter Morgan may have gotten Hawke confused with his successor Paul Keating who is more vocal in his republicanism.
Keating curiously is not depicted in The Crown.
