Is a white guy playing a stereotypical black mama with a razor sharp wit an indicator of an adult appraisal of equality and a sober nod to empowerment and equity of outcome or is it just blackface trying to pass itself off as anything but?
It seems very much like an 80's concept to me, one that didn't age or adapt to contemporary issues but perhaps that's the point it is trying to prove.
I've no issue with Eddie Murphy being a white Jewish guy or a Donkey, have we gotten to a time when ethnic background portrayals are open season or do we still have some distance to go? (Or should it stay prohibited?)
Obviously this could be a sensitive issue and so please be respectful to your fellow members and stay civil.

That's what actors do, they act. I see no reason why a white actor can't play a black woman. I'm surprised the pc crowd which dominates the film industry ever allowed this movie to be made. You can't compare it to "blackface" when black actors weren't even allowed in films.
