Seriously, though, he is obsessed with celebrity. Like when he used to have cameos in a bunch of movies back in the '90s, it was because that was a condition of them being allowed to use his properties for location shooting
I'm a casual fan, mostly of the era focused on in the movie. But a handful of later tracks are ok. Now, I have a buddy who collects everything by him and goes to see his awful concerts and I'm like, but why?!
But what I am interested in is the Greenwich Village folk scene in general and that is where Mangold really fucked things up. Dave Van Ronk barely featured and Phil Ochs not featured at all? Come on now! Plus the whole Johnny Cash subplot could have (and should have) been dropped since it only invited comparisons to the same director's much better film Walk the Line and Joaquin Phoenix's much better performance. Boyd Holbrook - who I typically like - plays him as if it's an SNL sketch.
No clue how it was nominated for Best Picture, although it was better than Emilia Pérez, which is the height of cringe.
Great sock show!

I saw the Bob Dylan movie. It didn't do anything for me but then I've never been a Bob Dylan fan, so I didn't care going in.

See, I think when you're born that wealthy there really isn't much to aspire to and there are people around to wait on you hand and foot from the moment you're born (those people are, naturally, beneath you). You'll never need to worry about putting food on the table or having a place to live… So you begin to get envious of people who are more famous than you. You need your name on the front of buildings, you need to be as famous as that actor or this politician or whatever. And the cycle continues: his children are successful not on their own merits but through their ties to him.
His brother may have figured this out and attempted to live a normal life. But he was disowned… sort of like Scientology or something where you have to distance yourself from anyone who's not on board. The idea that perhaps there was more to life than accumulating more money than you'll ever spend was anathema.
Anyway, that's my armchair psych evaluation of the guy
But, yes, he was amazing in the role and I'd have picked him over the others I've seen (Brody, Fiennes in part, Chalamet). Of the two actors nominated for biopics, it's a night and day difference. Chalamet doesn't act or sound anything like Bob Dylan and the movie was a bit of a mess in general. But Sebastian Stan got more and more Trumpian with every scene. It was insanely accurate by the time he started going on talk shows and giving interviews, which is, of course, the only Trump that we in the public know.

I don't judge him for the cameos. This movie gave me the impression he didn't get enough love or something growing up so he keeps the mantra that he's the best, to make that feeling go away.
Just an impression though. I don't really know. But it seems logical to fill hole with something.
Anyway. Just wanted to share that article since it contained reactions to the reaction.
And he really should have been flattered Sebastian Stan got the role. hHe's way more handsome than anyone he could have hoped to get, and did so well he got an Oscar hattip.
I think he should have gotten it. Adrien Brody is cool and all, but he kinda gave a sort of similar performance in The Pianist. Sebastian Stan transformed himself with his body movements and the way he talked. And some mannerisms. The only prosthetic was body related, not face. So.. make up, wig, fake body fat, and the rest was all Sebastian Stan.
