Facebook is more personal. Very few have a public FB. With instagram and Twitter, it's usually public, and you're speaking to the world. That's what makes it so in. Getting your pics liked by random people all over the world.

I don't know, I don't really use either. What is there to do all day on Instagram? I believe Facebook's numbers are for the website itself and does not include their other properties. Their biggest growth is in the Asian market according to their latest financial report. The penetration for both of these networks is so large, that I doubt anything could replace them. If you switched networks to a smaller service, you would only be hurting your reach.

People still use it but people don’t really stay on Facebook all day the way they do Instagram, and I’m fairly certain they count Insta users In the Facebook userbase.

I think Instagram is here to stay, but Facebook isnt doing as poorly as anecdotal reporting would lead you to believe. Just last year their user base grew 9%. It is still number one by far.
