Personally I believe it's better to use natural oils to style your hair, than having to use ****ty gel to hold it in place and gel you have to eventually wash out at the end of today. Plus gel does not fully hold it in place in wind!

I read on here that grease serves some evolutionary purpose. Probably a sexually selected trait. It would be unwise to wash your hair.
