About a month or two ago I found my urine to be of red colour. Co-incidentally I had had fanta so I excused it. On Friday evening I had a strange kind of pain and yet again it happened. It scared the sh!t out of me to see red urine. I immediately drank lots of water and urine has been clear since then.
Long story short: For last 15 years or so, I have been living on soft-drinks. Not anymore. I am going to drink water now. Till 3 days back I used to drink not more than 600 ml of water a day and I had a coke or something with soda after every meal. Not now. I haven't visited doctor yet but will if there is problem again but from my side I have taken a pledge that I will form a habit of drinking water after my meals instead of softdrinks. My parents used to say this to me for years and I didn't listen. But things will change now. I am feeling good and normal in last 2 days.

As someone suggested you might be flirting with kidney stones. And though we men really have no way of comparing it, I've heard several people say,"passing a kidney stone is worse than the pain of childbirth."
Soa word to the wisethat's nothing to fool around with. Please see a doctor, immediately.

AJ, my friend,
please
listen to everyone, and SEE A DOCTOR
ASAP!
I understand your being frightened, but take it from someone who knows; it's usually NOT as bad as you may have worked yourself up to believe. And trust me, ultimately you're better off dealing with it now rather than later.
Like me for example
when I turned 50 years of age, everyone was saying, "Oh, a middle aged African American male is much more susceptible to colon cancer than othersyou should defintely get a colonoscopy!"
But, as I am ashamed to admit, I put it off for 8 yearsquite frankly I was frightened.
And hearing all those old jokes from movies and such, where the reticent males would usually say something like, "Hey, i'm not letting some pimply-faced intern shove a garden hose up my poop-chute."
But then my older brother contracted colon cancer, and in a matter of mere WEEKS (6-7) he was gone. Then, I couldn't get to the doctors fast enough.
And you know what?
It was nothing at all like I had feared; and with all the meds they gave me I couldn't feel a thing. I felt so foolish for playing roulette with my health when really it was much ado about nothing.
See your physician. You'll be glad you did. And good luck.

Please get it checked out, no matter how scared you are to do so. It could be nothing, but it could be something. Kidney stones can be very painful if they continue to build up. Good luck!!

You'll be surprised at how much better you feel after you stop drinking soda.
yes Boing. I really wanted to stop for years but was too weak to let it go. Not any more. I will drink lots of water, fresh juice squeezed at home and sometimes milk shakes but not soda.

You could also have a kidney stone. A friend of mine drank nothing but Pepsi, all day and all night, no water ever and he got kidney stones. Got one so bad he had to have surgery to remove it. Good luck, go to a doctor to make sure it's not an infection, and drink lots of water. You'll be surprised at how much better you feel after you stop drinking soda.

There's no set amount. The 2.5 litres, half a gallon, 8 cups, etc. is roughly the same amount and has become the general rule. One though should increase a little each day until you notice that your urine is relatively clear and then you've probably found the right amount personally for you and your needs.
Some people take vitamins, eat dehydrated types of foods or drinks, exercise, etc. and thus needs can vary. Start with increasing by half a cup each day until you hit your mark. Do though talk with your doctor just to make sure all is well.

The recommended amount is about 2 liters, or a half gallon, per day. If you exercise regularly you should increase accordingly. I find I can't make myself drink that much plain water every day so I add a squeeze of lemon or lime, which is also a good way to get your daily vitamin c.

It should be less scary to be checked now than it could be later because some things worsen with time. It may be nothing or something simple that can be treated but if you wait then it could become more serious.
Things consumed can change the color of your waste products and it may be just that. You should though talk with your doctor to be certain. Make an appointment. Until then, do drink more water but don't go crazy and water-log yourself. Drink just enough to achieve clear urine which may or may not be that ol' famous 8 glasses a day.

Red color in your urine will sometimes indicate blood in your urine. This can be caused by a urinary tract infection, or worse, a kidney infection. You should probably get to a doctor to have it checked out.
