On Saturday we went to a cookout, and I saw this couple's kids eating ice cream wrapped in a slice of white bread.
I got curious and tried one. It was good! Have you ever heard of people eating ice cream with bread?

They serve gelato on brioche in Italy, and you can get it that way at our local gelato shop (gelateria?). Yum!

Now that seems right up my alley. I've had waffles and ice cream, why not toast and ice cream? Oooh, cinnamon raisin or applesauce toast with vanilla bean You may be on to something here, nutsberry.

No. Toasting the bread would make the two textures clash.
Edit: In light of greekgirl's link below and how delicious some of those toasted ice cream sandwiches look, I retract my statement.

Yup. On the recent Kit Kat thread, I commented that the blandness of white bread counters the sweetness of ice cream which works well for me. I don't eat a lot of ice cream but next time I'm at a get-together, I'm going to make an ice cream sandwich just to see the reaction!

A ha! So it's a Southeast Asian thing. Well they do it here in Indonesia too.
I like it, it makes whatever ice cream you eat taste like an ice cream cake.
