I've been using several-step Korean skin care for quite a while, and I've decided to just take a little break. I'm using what my grandmother used. She used Ponds cold cream for makeup removal and moisturizer cream at night. Every night, I'm using my regular Korean face wash, a gentle exfoliator, and apply Ponds moisturizer cream. I've been doing it for about 4 nights now, and my skin is incredibly soft. Really soft! I'm interested in seeing how it holds up with the multiple snowstorms we have coming up this week where the wind and air will be incredibly dry.
It reminds me of how my other grandmother used Vaseline. My great-aunt always used Ponds or Oil of Olay. (I think they changed that formula, though). Maybe going back to basics every now and again is a good thing to do.

It makes good sense. You can often tell a lot at a glance if a person has a healthy diet. I think hydration and gut health are important. I still think there are benefits with products like sunscreen, retinol, Vit-C and bio-actives. I can't imagine applying any type of moisturizer or occlusive on dry skin. It makes sense to always apply on top of freshly cleansed, moist skin. One benefit to keeping things basic is that it's easier to keep the routine.

A chemist once told me that none of the fancy creams are any better than petroleum jelly for your skin. The main thing is to put the cream onto damp skin and this really does seem to work. He also told me that what you put into your stomach is the best way to achieve good skin. What goes into your bloodstream feeds your skin from the inside and that's the only true way to take care of your skin and everything else. I've never forgotten his advice and it's worked for me.

I remember watching an investigative report about a super wealthy man who sold jars of face cream that cost him about five cents to make, and he would sell it for something like $100. I recall seeing his ads in magazines too. He was so rich, they couldn't even contact him or get near enough to him to question him.
So, IMO, all those expensive creams are a ripoff.

The thing about what he's doing is that if you apply pretty much any moisturizer onto your skin, you'll see immediate results. But those results don't last. You'll definitely see benefits if you do it every day, but the way he's making it sound by showing those "instant results" is a tad misleading. Once that's all absorbed by the skin and exposed to air, the "regular" skin tone will return. Like any other skin care, whatever you can be consistent with is what works.
He's talking about La Mer skin cream, which is around $400 for a very small jar. Their claim to fame is their seaweed broth. One major problem with it is that there is so much perfume/fragrance, it's definitely not for sensitive skin.
