The $5800 in cash in the woods was to throw off any search team. He's alive, Jim.

So your argument is that out of $200k in $20 bills, not one of those bills was ever checked by anyone?
What about the $5800 in cash that the kid found in the woods? That sort of tells you something right there. That the jump probably didn’t go too well for him.
But here’s the thing. All bills at some point will go back to the fed, once their service life renders them unfit to continue in circulation. At that point, I find it highly unlikely that not one of those $200k in $20 bills escaped detection.
He’s dead, Jim.

But how easy is it to track all of the money in circulation? It's not as if every store clerk is checking the serial numbers on every bill that comes through them. In fact none do. It is probably close to impossible to find those dollars even if they were in circulation. DB Cooper lived.

Probably not. As I recall, none of the marked bills ever showed up in circulation. It’s also possible that after he had went through all that trouble, that it dawned on him that the bills were marked, and that he could never spend it without laundering it in some way.
I recall reading that some years later, some kids found some of the money in the woods. This is why I don’t think that he survived.
