I was glued to the TV watching all of this unfold.
Most all the stations were airing this. Watching it live and getting bits and pieces of information.
It was devastating watching this.
This is labeled as a massacre. Which is at least two people killed.
In the US before Columbine there were roughly 22 massacres in schools.
Since Columbine there have been 25.
Leading up to this shooting there were 2 in 1996 and 97, another one in 1998 and 2 in 1999.
This was a precursor of things to come.
before you leave remember I was with you

Thank you for sharing that, DF. It is very moving and shows how various unexpected bits of tragedies can reach inside us and change our perspective. A simple photo personalized it for you.

I was 28. Had just returned to my home town after making my fortune. I had entered into a relationship with a good friend that would end up being my wife and the love of my life. As a star wars fan…I was excited for the first installment in sixteen years to release in one month…life was swell!
On the twentieth of April I was just doing my usual thing…living life and not letting it live me. I heard the news while attending to my elderly grandmother. We were obviously troubled by the events that were unfolding in colorado…but I must say…I wasn't all that affected. Yes I thought it was horrible…but nothing about it resonated with me on a personal level.
About a week later I was browsing a magazine…Time I believe. It was an in memoriam issue for the tragedy. All of the tributes were gut wrenching. Athletes…scholars…an educator…all senselessly lost. Still I was not all that moved…until this young man.
This was Steven Robert Curnow. Steven at age 14 was the youngest victim…he had aspirations of being a pilot in the Navy…he played soccer…and he was a huge Star Wars fan!
That gutted me right then and there! I knew how excited I was at twice this young man's age…his excitement for The Phantom Menace has to be GALACTIC! And although the film did not live up to the hype…I felt miserable that this child was denied the opportunity to judge for himself. Denied the opportunity to experience it with family and freinds…and ultimately denied the opportunity to pass his love of Star wars on to his children.
I know it might seem silly to some…but the loss of this kid who I related to had an emotional effect on me and opened my eyes to the depth of the tragedy. Thanks for this thread

Nowhere near Columbine High School, thank goodness. Another tragedy at a school, and there are just too many of them.
