Pusha T, his brother Malice and producer Pharrell Williams reunited. oh hell no, you say? oh hell yeah, i say!! this album, their reunion album people didn't know they wanted or needed turned out to be a dope ass masterpiece imo!!
opener "The Birds Don't Sing" had me tearing up right from the get-go. features John Legend:
2nd track has a couple of Ready to Die toddlers in the video running and sitting around and features guest performance by Kendrick Lamar who is just a normal chilled dude spitting bars on a total nutso psychedelic instrumental:
list=RDecIH-4RbbOk
3rd track, "P.O.V." features a couple of verses from Tyler the Creator and he kills it honestly
list=RD7dI5837ktzc
4th track, "So Be It", has insane bassline & beats, an absolute killer track and my personal fav on the whole album :
5th track, "Ace Trumpet", is culturally inappropriate.
list=RDJayCuiHERUQ
6th track, "F.I.C.O.", has best guest hook, by Stovey God Cooks in a commanding performance:
list=RDKLpOjdp0KO4&start_radio
7th track, "Inglourious Basterds" has the best beats, totally unhinged business tbh:
list=RD0nJjB-egwmo&start_radio
etc etc etc etc let's cut all that glorious crap that's left on here (5-6 more tracks, none of them dull, not one too many, all interesting in their own right) and get right away to the last highlight on the album, shall we? the closing track, "By the Grace of God":
list=RDTNf1N0X3FLo
this is definitely a Album of the Year contender. full album available on Youtube music:
on that note, goodnight!

meh. not impressed by these kinds of rappers anymore.
the beats are boring. the flow is boring. their attitude is bad and they have no passion in their voice. it's just slop. I've heard AI lo-fi tracks with more personality and emotion than these washed up rappers have.

yes, that's true, certainly. that being said tho, i'm listening to new release of another one of my fav rappers, Che Noir, which she dropped just a week ago. it's much smoother and chilled than any of the other dark twisted albums we discussed today, and just perfect for insomniac me at 5am. and album is aonly 22 minutes long. she's really good with her bars as well. this is the lead single.

So, like I said, "Community" showed up in my recommended videos and I listened to it first. Then "VCRs" was suggested right beside it. Hearing those two prompted me to check out the entire album. "On McAfee" and "K-Word" are the others that instantly made my playlist on first listen, but as with all great albums something new catches my ear with every listen. "Sk8" and "YouUgly" are definitely standouts. Honestly I'd agree with most of your list.
I definitely agree that there is some filler, but I'm seeing that across the board these days. Albums in general seem to be getting longer and longer, probably as a result of the streaming era and there no longer being a need to confine things to the length allowed by a CD or a record. That can be useful, for sure, but artists need to realize that it's ok not to release everything you record or to save some of it for lower-tier EPs or mixtapes.

yep great album. it does have a valley tho of like 2-3 weaker tracks when the amazing run before slows down for some cringey soul singing lol but it picks up again then runs with the briliiant production, writing, flow, and flawless rapping. all these crazy beat switch ups are ****ing genius and JID has such an uniquely energetic flow on top of this off kilter and wobbly yet dark bumbling volatile beat. that is simply one-of-a kind technique only JiD masters, adopting a flow and voice he has never done before, erratic and totally insane. there's only one rapper like JID and that's JID
i mean come on, listen to this and then tell me i'm lying. i fgging dare you.
what are your fav tracks on the album? these are mine lol
Community (feat. Clipse) (v)
YouUgly (feat. Westside Gunn)
Of Blue (feat. Mereba)
On McAfee (feat. Baby Kia)
Sk8 (feat. Ciara & EarthGang)
K-Word (feat. Pastor Troy)
WRK (v)
Gz
Glory
VCRs (feat. Vince Staples)
and yet, The Forever Story remains JID's masterpiece which will be really hard to beat, as one of the most defining hip hop albums of the 2020s..
so here's another release from this year that's really good and worth checking out. rapper is self-confessed Communist:
Ghais Guevara - Goyard Ibn Said
. here are 3 samples from the album.
also, the new clipping album,
, is pretty good, altho not as good as their 2 prior albums,

Lol same, as much as i appreciate and admire his artistically different approach to hip hop, his delivery and all that mostly goes over my head. or is just plain sleep inducing. i have friends who absolutely adore him and i respect that, but he's not for me. same goes for Injury Reserve. their last album was so ****ing dull lol JPEGMAFIA is brilliant when he's good and angry, but when he's silly and overdoing it, then i'm just put off by the abrasiveness of his particular style bc it feels just empty and calculated rather than raw or real. which he can be. so hard.
Pink Siifu is totally different. dude is a goddman wizard and firecracker, you'll see.

Nope! Will add it to my queue. As always, there's a ton of indie rock and such on my list, so I miss quite a few rap releases. I will say that I gave the new Earl Sweatshirt album a few spins over the weekend and unfortunately didn't really care for it apart from a couple of tracks.

no objections there, but before you decide AOTY, have you checked out Pink Siifu's new one yet? especially with his new one, he may have FINALLY entered post-rap era as the first hip hop artist ever (a couple have tried before, but not yet really succeeded - Injury Reserve, Death Grips, Earl, JPEGMAFIA)….
anyways this is the masterful album in question. an absolute must-listen:

oh yeah, it's a new track. Clipse feature on JID's new album and that's their collab piece. i love JID, his "The Forever Story" album from a couple years back was so fire and so politically relevant and explicit. i love that about JID, i love his new album as well and that track/album single release is fantastic, track of the year material, with everyone involved giving it their all.
