The phantom was black. It was kind of weird. Also Christine was a Latina. It was the current national touring company.
Should non whites be cast as whites when there are so many real whites who could have played the role?

But there are like a ton of white actors who could have played the part to preserve the racial authenticity of the original source material. It's like when they cast a transgender person as a regular person. They could have just used a normal human instead of a freak. Why take roles away from regular people when there are so many to choose from?

Well it takes place in France before the turn of the century. Pretty sure there weren't any black opera composers at that time.
