13-3. #1 seed in the NFC playoffs and will not heave to leave the state of Texas. And through all that they still won as many playoff games as the Browns, 49ers, Jaguars, etc.
So was the season a failure or is it a building block for future seasons to Come? IMO, it's hard to Cal it a success after all the hype and trash talking done by them and some of their fans.

It's only a failure if it doesn't lead to at least the NFC Championship game next year. If you look back and it was their high point of these years.
This makes about as much sense as it would to say the Browns season wasn't a failure because they took their losses well.
Your reasoning is faulty. Hype and trash talking have nothing to do with what you are asking about.

By your standards the season was a failure. You are the one who is on record saying that the goal of every team is to win the SuperBowl. Anything less than the SuperBowl is a failure. So by your definition the Cowboys season is a failure.

That's an awfully high bar for such a sub-par team. Poor deluded Dallas fans have to resort to hoping they'll do better next year. They should talk to a few Carolina fans.

The purpose of their existence is to win a championship. They didn't do that. They failed this year.
There is gray areas in terms of failures. This wasn't as big a fail as say the Cleveland Browns' season. But, yeh, they failed.

Not really a failure. They lost their veteran QB and found their QB of the future.
If Romo never got injured, who knows if Dak would have even had the opportunity to stay with the Cowboys?

Yes, they made too many uncalled for mistakes. They had 12 men on the field how many times? And once where they were lucky to call timeout, which they could have used later in the game. After a stellar season, boneheaded mistakes cost them a playoff victory.

But that's not the case. Two years ago the Cowboys went 12-4 and got eliminated by the exact same team at the exact same time in the playoffs. the only reason the team was down last year was because some key defensive personnel missed a fair chunk of the year through suspension and later injuries, as well as the starting QB and his back up being hurt along with Dez Bryant, and there's probably others I'm missing. The Cowboys weren't some awful team who got better out of nowhere, they were a good team who'd struggled the year before due to injuries and other personnel unavailabilies. We lost to the Packers both years because our secondary is embarrassing. It has been for years and will still be next year too. This year was not the start of something brand new, it was the continuation of something that has been the team's biggest issue for years and still has not been fixed, and cost us our season yet again.

I'm not a Cowboys fan. Too many memories of them or San Fran winning the NFC every year when I was a kid. That said how can their season be a failure when no one thought they would win 13 and with 2 rookies no less.
Disappointing? Yes. No way can your team do so well and then fall short and not be disappointed. However, their fans can take solace in having a lot to build on, some big time trade bait if they want to go that way and having a cool stadium. Sadly they are still stuck with jerry but he seems to have toned down his act so that's another plus.

Not at all. The loss hurts, no doubt. But going into the season NOBODY had them winning the division. And then when Romo got hurt nobody had them doing squat. They were 3-1 with Romo last year and 1-11 without him so the same was expected. Then Dak looked good in the preseason and it looked like the may be decent and possibly contend for a wildcard. Dak turned into a late round gem and Zeke turned into what everyone thought he could be and they get the #1 seed. Have to lose these big games to learn how to win them and the young guns looked good and the moment wasn't too big for them.
Yes, they lost but only because Rodgers played at a ridiculous level. Going forward, they have the stud RB, the QB of the future, the best OL in the league, and after they trade Romo they will have money to spend on the defense. They will be good for the future and have a window of a few years as they don't have to pay Dak for a while, like Seattle when they landed Wilson late in the draft.
Boy, you got me confused with a man who repeats himself- Omar Little

Absolutely not. They're set for the future, Not winning the Super Bowl in year one of your new era isn't a failure. Maybe people would have a gripe had they beep the bed, but they played the best game of the playoffs, and were three good 50 yard field goals and an amazing miracle throw/catch away from advancing, or at least going to overtime against one of the best Quarterbacks in league.

And my prediction at the time Romo was first injured was that with a good QB we would win the division and could grab a two seed. So this fan was not thinking we have a team who sucks and had no chance. I was fully expecting the Cowboys (with a good QB) to correct their injury and suspension ravaged 2015-16 season and go back to their 2014-15 form. Did I expect that good QB to be a rookie? No.

Yes, our season was a failure. While some may claim 13-3 was a big improvement on last year, the previous season was derailed by injuries to Romo and Bryant, as well as having key defensive pieces missing games early through suspension. The season before that we were 12-4 and eliminated at the same stage of the playoffs by the same team. Does winning 1 more game qualify as success? Don't think so. Have we improved? Incrementally perhaps through having younger versions of what we already had at QB and RB. But our secondary remains a laughing stock and a liability late in games.
I don't think the trash talking from the Cowboys and fans has been any more (or less for that matter) tedious than when any team indulges in it. Trash talking, almost by definition is boreish and obnoxious behaviour.

Was the Cowboys season a failure?
Depends on your expectations.
Were you telling everyone that this season would be the Cowboys return to glory with a World Championship?
FAILURE
Were you looking forward to at least a Super Bowl appearance?
FAILURE
Were you hoping for a reasonably good playoff run that might indicate some hope for the future?
FAILURE
Have you resigned yourself to the liklihood that the Cowboys will never again have any post season success as long as Jerry Jones is general manager, and you were just happy that they didn't crap themselves like last season?
SUCCESS!
