I'd personally prefer Reddit but board transitions rarely work.

I'd most likely be for this option. Not sure I'll make the jump to reddit, but who knows. Been coming here off and on for 13 years for the forums Guess I could tryout reddit if a bulk of users from this board move over there.

I agree. The boards here are almost as aggressively unwelcoming as 4chan so I guess IMDb/Amazon decided to sink them.

Look at the numbers for this board or Film general or whatever movie specific board is overrun right now.
Now imagination the weight those numbers could add as part of a pitch to sell advertising space.
So why not keep the boards open to monetise those hits?
I can only think of one reason: The nature of the content was damaging the IMDB brand, devaluing the space.
I guess given the choice of implementing a proper solution or closing the whole thing they went for the fast, simple solution.
Can't really blame them.

I think any site with some form of message board like this or RTs is likely going to be a short term solution.
Fact is, these type of boards just aren't worth it anymore for sites. With the rise of Facebook for general commenting on things and Reddit for specific interests, these boards are going to be going away soon enough.

What about Rotten Tomatoes? They had a Video Games forum. It's not active either so everyone here could move there and no one there would be displaced.
