Went to see it today as something to do between birthday breakfast and birthday dinner - Pretty sure it's my favourite SW movie of them all.

This is the first must see SW movie since Jedi. Despite the darker tone, it leads into Episode IV excellently and I can picture watching this before the OT in future marathon sessions; except for the OT, I've never seen any SW movie more than once all the way through If you are a SW fan, then you need to see this movie. Nothing else needs to be said on the subject.

I was beeming when Vader showed upEvery scene was just epic.

I'd probably flip TFA and Rogue One, but yeah.

He was still a bit whiny and overemotional straight after he put the suit on. Then he calmed down when he crossed his arms later on. Switching to Mufasa's voice was inevitably going to be jarring. At least it could be explained by the fact it was a machine voice changer.

Right but it was still jarring as hell seeing him in the RAEL Vader suit with the RAEL Vader voice, knowing that not even 20 minutes ago he was all, "From mah point of view teh Jedi are evil!". I agree he shouldn't have been as stone cold and maybe not as overly poetic as Vader, but like I said, he seemed like not even remotely close to the same person. He was a VINO (Vader In Name Only).

Yes, Anakin beating Padme was absurd but the movie is absolutely awesome.

That might have made him too unlike Luke Skywalker, though. We're supposed to believe they're father and son, so they should bear a lot of resemblance in voice and appearance when younger.

Yea I think pre-Vader Anakin needed to be strong and intimidating although 'good', like a kinda, ruthlessly lawful good paladin type, strong arm of justice. Honestly even Hayden could have pulled it off maybe but just the aesthetic (fcking braid??) and dialogue failed miserably. His 'edge' wasn't violence or being ruthless but being fcking emo, and when he did go over into the dark side it was so over the top and out of character it was comedic. He did nothing but good all 3 films then just does, what, 3 random massacres? Lmao

Lol true. The sad thing is too he had plenty of room for development in that area as well, because the Jedi are essentially shown to attempt to control the Republic from behind the scenes, making them look a bit shady and deceptive. The Emperor also obviously wanted absolute rule, but he did it in plain view with the approval of everyone. There's lots of other factors that still make them the bad guys and whatnot but there was definitely some interesting material to work with that would have made the Jedi seem not as great as they said they were.
Also, Anakin himself should have been more Vader-like imo. People argue that he was supposed to be young and immature, okay, but, he was like 10000000% a different person. They should have cast someone who could have pulled off the Shakespearean way JEJ delivered the dialogue. They wouldn't have had to do like a JEJ impression or anything, but they should have been able to maintain some consistency with his tone and vocabulary and whatnot.

Ye, pretty much any scenario would've been better I think. As with a lot of the prequels, I think Lucas just wrote a basic concept (Anakin through trying to save Padme kills her instead) that sounded cool/paid homage to classic tragedies, but failed to actually develop them in a real or compelling way. It's summed up in the hammy dialogue, "from my point of view the Jedi are evil!"

A better scenario would have been her being shot down on Mustafar and Obi-Wan helps her just long enough to save the kids but she dies from her injuries. He then tells Vader that she and the unborn child was killed in the crash, which Vader blames on Obi-Wan, solidifying the dark side's hold on him.

Honestly, that was the dumbest moment for me. That he would he turn to the dark side based on spurious concerns for Padme was almost workable, that he'd force choke her cos he's a bit emo and cause it all is retarded.
