According to "Le Monde", Serge Hascoet creative director at Ubisoft for 16 years, said that they want less storytelling in their games and want to let players "tell their own story."
Like emergent storytelling(, despite the fact that it doesn't quiet work for all games or all genres.)
They said games like Far Cry or Assassin's Creed had a lot of storytelling but that was "the usual way, the easy way" of making games and they want to end it.
Sounds like a way to remove costs to me

There's only problems when the games aren't that good.
Too bad they keep doing Halo games which is laughable since those games are absolutely terrible.

The problem with Sonic games is they keep making them for some reason.

Story is the only thing that make AC and Far Cry games even remotely interesting. Without that it's just walking around collecting things.
