Oh yes I remember the pain of having to pause and swap and the inevitable grumble that came along with it from everyone. I played a lot of timesplitters with friends back in the day and this was always a problem.
They probably should have just removed the option early on and force everyone to adapt really. They managed to convert me from a crazy directional arrow heathen into a normal "WASD" person by doing this in a few old games to be honest.

I mean as to why moving someones head is considered to be the same as flying a plane then I've got no idea.
I like most of the people who have replied to this thread prefer inverted Y-axis, and back before the prevalence of network games and gamer accounts, I've had to share the controls and I was always the odd man out, so it became a chore to keep pausing and changing the gameplay settings every time it was my turn. What you've written reminded me of what some people used as a sort of criticism for my preference. I suppose, "real gamers" get used to using the controls configured any which way.

To be fair you are right there is no reason to think inverting the Y axis makes sense where as inverting the X axis doesn't. But the inversion of the Y axis was established in early games and formed habits for many people, as far as I can tell the same can not be said about the X axis.
Although it is a fairly valid question as to why it was established that way. I think you are probably on the right track with the fact that the stick on a plane only controls pitch and roll and yaw isn't inverted on a plane I mean as to why moving someones head is considered to be the same as flying a plane then I've got no idea.

Inverted x axis serves no comfortable purpose.
The whole thing of inversion kind of reminds me of a manual turret or anything that is on a pivot.
The inverted y axis is good because of how we view flying a plane.
Yes, of course, but nose up and nose down work in the same way as nose left and nose right, except aircraft might have a differ a different control stick/wheel/dial for the "rudder" as it were.

No, leave it there for the people that need it, like subtitles on games should be optional too cause of deaf players.
The thing I don't get is games like Ratchet & Clank where they have sub-categorized the axis between 1st and 3rd person viewpoint. Why exactly?

What you agree that the option should be in to help dyslexics?
Even though it doesn't
Or you agree that the option should remain because it doesn't effect him?
Even though it actually is annoying to dyslexics, and seems to serve no pourpose.
Or do you agree that its "insane" to want to limit the amount of options in a menu?
If its the last one where dose that end, have an option to invert button presses in a game, so for an FPS game you need to lift your finger off a trigger to fire rather than press it.. i mean next to nobody will ever use it, but it would be an act of insanity/OCD to suggest it shouldn't be on the menu

Yeah I don't think dyslexia would make a difference when it comes to inverting the x axis. I mean I'm dyslexic and I cant see how it would help. I mean I struggle to say what is left and right without thinking of holding a pen (because I know I'm right handed, so if i think of writing i know what side is right). But if there is an obstacle to the left of me i don't accidentally walk into it, i know to go right, i just don't know its called right, think its the same with games, if i need to turn a direction i just do it.
What dose get me tho is that a lot like left and right i get mixed up with X and Y. So I often change the wrong setting. So it is an inconvenience to dyslexics and from what i can tell it doesn't serve a benefit, I've never heard of anyone that inverts the X axis.
Also nobody but a madman would invert the mouse axis, games shouldn't invert the Y axis on the mouse when you pick it for a controller, makes switching between the 2 (mouse and controller) a right pain in the arse.

The OPTION to invert the 'Y' axis should always be available - and I'm pretty sure the option is standard. I don't personally invert the 'x' axis, but I believe it should still be an option for those few dyslexic gamers out there. Options are a good thing even if you don't use/need them.
I personally invert the "y" axis for shooters or games with camera controls when I'm using a gamepad. Mouse/keyboard tho i always keep it normal. I Never Invert the 'x' axis tho and Idk why anyone would want/need to - but then again. I don't need to understand it. The OPTION for it doesn't effect me or my gaming in the slightest so it doesn't bother me. Anyone who gets upset about OPTIONS they don't need <- THOSE people are the insane/OCD people. Especially those who feel the need to start threads about it
