My first time viewing of the classics this last week have been:-
Beware, My Lovely (1952) - A one-man home invasion movie with Robert Ryan playing the creepiest part I've ever seen him play. Ida Lupino is his victim. Things get really tense at times when the troubled man becomes threatening during his see-saw mood swings. Good film.
The Narrow Corner (1933) - A runaway Douglas Fairbanks Jr. finds a whirlwind romance and friendship on a Polynesian island. Some philosophical dialogue but the best scenes are of stormy winds especially aboard the boat. I like to see people fighting against the elements. Enjoyable film.
The Garden of Allah (1936) - Charles Boyer is a runaway Trappist monk in the desert. Marlene Dietrich is there as well looking for excitement after being told she will find it there by a sand-reading fortune teller. She is continually warned about Charles Boyer in this movie of creeping mysticism. Rewatchable.

I watched Battleship Potemkin and The Thing From Another World, which isn't nearly as suspenseful as the remake. The monster is the worst part of the movie. We only see it as a lumbering creature who shows up every once in a while to cause havoc. We never get a look at what it is up to in the greenhouse, never see a sign of intelligence which it must have.
