Sound of Music.
I am not really a fan of 60's musicals, and I would not watch either movie right now, but I might someday watch "The Sound of Music" again, where as I don't think I would ever watch "West Side Story" again.
The underlying plot of the "Sound of Music", of the coming of the Nazis to Austria, and the somewhat fictionalized story of the Von Trapp family escaping over the Alps is good.
With "West Side Story", you get all those guys trying to act tough and then doing their dumb dance routines. Yuck.
Overall, I think "The Sound of Music" has better songs.
