Oh, I first saw "
ARACHNOPHOBIA
" back when I was a little kid.
I am now in my late 30's and I still to this day am very much of afraid of spiders and it is because of that Movie.

That movie actually caused me to have temporary arachnophobia. For about six months, I was double checking every corner of my house for spiders.

Another Scene that I myself really can't watch is the Shower Scene in the Movie "
ARACHNOPHOBIA
", Especially that 1 moment in that Scene when the spider actually jumps.

That is the one when he visits her in the hospital, right?
And then it all goes downhill from there.
Yeah, for me the movie is watchable up to that point.
Though I do wonder what she was doing there unguarded and how he could have had high security clearance or access when he should not have.

I agree with your assessment that "Irreversible" is geared to appeal to pretentious millennials. The rape sequence in the 1978 ISOYG was very effective. Camile Keaton gave a mostly believable performance.
"L' Homme Blesse" sounds like a movie that I would love.

I despise Shakey Cam. I have walked out of movies, or had to close my eyes because of this kind of self-indulgent and cheap shot camera work. Rather watch

and they did a better job of it.
I Spit On Your Grave
has prolonged rape and sodomy scenes in both versions I think, and they are disturbing to watch, but I never cared to see
Irreversible
, because it just looked too sensationalized and millennial stylized. I never cared much for French movies either.
There is one French film I wouldn't mind seeing. Have to check if it is on here….

I definitely agree with your second paragraph.
I know you haven't seen the movie (no loss), but it's a woman who is raped. I think she is sodomized. I don't think I'm being callous when I say that its extreme length makes it feel like pure sensationalism.
Now, there is a scene in an s&m gay bar, where all sorts of extreme stuff is going on in the back room, including beating a man to a bloody pulp with a fire extinguisher. Frankly, I found that scene so much more disturbing than the rape scene. Thought that scene, too, was total overkill. He smashes the guy on the head I'd say about 20 times while all the other sickos are standing there, watching it take place and getting off on it.
And as if that wasn't enough, the camera shakes horribly all throughout the scene in the bar. It literally gave me motion sickness.
I think it's a terrible movie.

I haven’t seen “Irreversible”, but from what I feel, I think it’s just shallow trendy to cite this film’s rape because it’s happening to a dude I believe.
Or those that hype it, have no point of reference for other films with notorious rapes which came before it.
The rape in
Frenzy
is skilfully and disturbingly presented that was perhaps a first for a mainstream movie.

I've never understood what makes the rape scene in "Irreversible" any worse than any other rape scene. Is it because the damn thing goes on for almost ten minutes?

Yes. She seems very cheery and sweet in real life and you'd never want to hurt her. Maybe that's why she's been cast in such roles that call for pathos.
