It's one of my favorite movies. So gently felt, yet an emotional powerhouse at the same time.

He had a wonderful run from Targets to the underrated Saint Jack. The Last Picture Show is one of the best films of the decade - I watched it again last week in tribute to him and it has lost none of its power.

I enjoyed looking at him in
Targets
and yes I agree, he did appear to be a bit up himself. Excellent film-maker though.

I never found him attractive. And I don't think he was a real nice guy. But "The Last Picture Show" is one of my favorite movies. His gift was real.
