I like him, but I've only seen him in that and American History X. Maybe he's bot a good acror, but he plays that kind of serious leader type well.
You realize that it's supposed to be a reflection of the way our society treated/treats LGBTQ people, but flipped, right? The episode is on the side of deviations from the norm.
One of the recurring villains, the Ferengi are a cartoonish lampoon of capitalists. Men sometimes wear skirts. Women in high positions are referred to as sir. Many other examples.

I didn't see any previous star trek stuff as woke so far. even the nonbinary alien race in TNG turned out to just be killing anyone who attempted to be normal and heterosexual. that's not woke.

I'm surprised you enjoyed as much of the franchise as you did. It's always been pretty woke/leftist, and your ass is like… What are you again? Too right wing for my taste, whatever it is.
I still haven't gotten past a few eps of DS9, but I hear it gets good much in the same way TNG did. For me, it's more that I'm just attached to the TNG crew. Though I tried watching Picard, and while it has some of the old crew, a lot of new Trek is missing what make Trek good, like the optimism.

As for sci fi I think ds9 was quite good.
