So with that in mind, I really dig the whole backwoods goth aesthetic in the early carny scenes and again near the end. The set designs, costumes, makeup, all of it. Lonesome Wyatt (of the band Those Poor Bastards) would love this movie. It then turns into a dark spin on the Depression-era outlaw mythos (Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde, etc) and has quite a bit to say about class. This is a bit more ambitious than Hellbender and they pull it off. They've also reached new heights musically (very effective ukulele use ).
