Before the reunification of Germany in 1990 the position of Chancellor of Germany was just under that of of the President of Germany. For example, Hitler was appointed Chancellor in 1933 by then President Hindenburg. So Hitler, in 1933, was still sort of the "Vice -President" until Hindenbug dies in 1934. But today, in 2025, the Chancellor now holds the highest position of the Federal Government of Gemany. Is this correct?
The President of Germany was and still is officially the head of Germany.
The Chancellor is the head of the government.
The President had and has some political power, but is more or less just a representative.
The Chancellor has the real political power, but is much more controlled by Parliament than in other countries.
That was
'always'
like that; nothing changed.
