I had both CDs from this film and I listened to them daily. I even tried to do the dances from the film from memory. Yeah…that's when I realized that the dancing in this film takes years of training and the body of a ballroom dancer.
Which is why the black male and female dancers in this movie looked really awkward. They danced too close together and her boobs and ass were in the way.

Ah man that soundtrack still rocks to this day. I forgot about that.
But I still feel like Dirty Dancing had a better soundtrack. Just because those other movies had #1 hit song doesn't mean that the soundtrack was great.

Was just researching that… I see it in used record shops a
lot
, so it was obviously a huge seller. Apparently there were four that officially originated from the soundtrack, but also several others that got a second life or finally took off after being included on it.

Soundtrack to Footloose had 6 top 40 hits off of it.
Footlose - Hit #1
Let's Hear It For The Boy - Hit #1
Almost Paradise - Hit #7
Holding Out For A Hero - #35
Dancing In The Sheets - #17
I'm Free - #22
I'd say that's WAY more successful than Dirty Dancing.

Apples and oranges. Dirty Dancing mixed original songs and hit songs from the 1960s. Grease used only or mainly original songs.
