I guess because he was a big cash cow for the music industry back then. But they made the Rihanna incident seem less serious than it actually was. I know it was domestic violence but I thought he beat her up and gave her a black eye. Unacceptable. But I recently read the police report and it was alot more serious than that. He almost murdered her. He only backed off because she managed to escape the vehicle and scream. He was still choking her on the side wall but I believe people heard her cries and he fled in fear for getting caught.
He needed a prison sentence.
