To actually make me sympathize with Hans was an amazing feat by Lorre. You could see the torment in the character's insanity, and truly understand his desperation in the final act.

One Lorre performance I've never seen but want to "The Face Behind The Mask" (1941). I've never found it on video or DVD or even seen it on TV! Can anybody help me find it? Thanks.

When his character has a mobile face and lets you in on all his thoughts and feelings: "Arsenic and Old Lace," "Casablanca," "Maltese Falcon." When his character is more guarded and keeps his feelings (mostly) in check: "Mad Love," "The Man Who Knew Too Much." When the character he is playing is quite mad: "Mad Love" (again), "M," "The Beast with Five Fingers." When his character spends a good part of his time putting on an act: Mr. Moto movies, "Crack-Up." Guilty pleasure: "The Island of Doomed Men." I'll have to see "The Mask of Dimitrios" and "Three Strangers" again to know where to place those performances.
