It's a pity that this fine old classic movie isn't available on Tubi or Freevee, and isn't accessible to Comcast customers with only basic service.
I got tired of waiting for it to show up on the streaming channels. I got the DVD by purchasing it on Amazon…

Chinon in France averages only about a half inch of snow each winter. However, as mentioned, it would have added to the claustrophobic atmosphere to have had a bit of snow on the ground.

The Lion in Winter has a ridiculously brilliant cast of all ages which casts a huge net over lots of associations too
I really do believe that this was a perfect cast to choose from…
I'd love to play, but we have a lot going on in this coming week. We have family and friends visiting for the Independence Day celebrations we have here.
I get the fact that there are people who are so hung up on politics, but we are all for patriotism here. There are those of us who still love our country and we still strive for freedom.
We will still celebrate by being together and making our favorite foods and enjoying fellowship. That is what being an American really is all about.
For that matter, that is what being a human being should be about!

It certainly comes in handy for the Kevin Bacon Game - But Removed.
That's where you take two actors who have appeared in film and try and knit them together within 7 movies using only other actors they have worked with
For example taking someone young these days and someone old from early cinema. Let's go for
Sydney Sweeney
and get her to
Laurence Olivier
Margo
Sydney was in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (2019) with Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo DiCaprio was in Inception (2010) with Michael Caine
Michael Caine was in Sleuth (1972) with Laurence Olivier
There we go, just 3 steps and didn't even have to use this film's cast
It's a fun game which I'll propose to
The Knitting Club
and see if people can bring two actors together within 7 movies or less

You are probably right there.
However, seems the 20thC wasn't that warm either if tales of the winter of 1947 are a good gauge, and indeed 1963, which I recall well as a boy, trudging through feet upon feet of snow for week after week, and even our bathroom cistern with a thin veneer of ice round the inner edges, and windows frosted over until very late mornings, only to frost up again nightly! Grim hardly summed up that winter for us,especially in Scotland.

I really do not think that it really makes that much difference to the effectiveness of the film.
That said, the events occur during the Mediaeval Warm Period which climate scientists say occurred. Some give a range of 900-1300 for this period, some say 950-1250. All would place the events in the warm period however. From around 1600 until around 1800 (or 1850 according to some studies) the "mini ice age" was a cooler period in which alpine glaciation increased.

Yes, I love it dearly, too.
And nitpicking over its historical accuracy is quite pointless, given that the film (and indeed the play it's based on) employed deliberate anachronism in its vision of the Plantagenets' family life. It's not that Goldman didn't realise that 12th-century royalty didn't have Christmas trees, wrap and label Christmas presents, etc - he introduced these anachronisms quite deliberately, and avoided anything like real medieval manners, precisely so we would relate to them as a real dysfunctional family.
My point was that was the OP's nitpick was unjustified anyway, even if the film had been intended to be realistic.

This is one of my favourite films, without doubt.
However, I doubt very much if Harvey sat down and thought, before commencing filming, now was this set in the Mediaeval Warm Period ? I am all in favour of historical accuracy, but isn't this almost paranoid attention to detail perhaps just a tad OTT?
