Btw that doesn't mean there shouldn't be some kind of peacekeeping measure in a society, but at least in the US, the police derive from slave catchers in the past. Cops exist as they are now to benefit the ruling class, bot the community.

On one hand, Police Chief Sid Hatfield of Matewan, West Virginia is perhaps my favorite American historical figure (although John Brown, Eugene Debs, and Thomas Paine rank highly as well). On the other hand, he may be the exception which proves the rule.
