Birthright citizenship didn't exist for the first 110 years of the amendment. It was only the 1950's that this idea cane to fruition or was adopted . Obama essentially said America was not exceptional by saying other people from other countries can think their country is exceptional too. So, he pretty much said America was no more exceptional than any other country and those countries agreed.
