A lot of people considered them to be junk cars. But I actually liked those old Vega’s. Especially the one’s that some people installed V8’s in.
Chevrolet must have taken note of the popularity of this concept, and released the very similar looking Monza with a V8 option. Unfortunately, they released it with the crappy, low power 305 V8.

The idea that intellectual property will be more valuable than physical property has been spinning for over 30 years now. It started with music and video, found its way to texts and chemical composition and is now trying to take up shapes and tastes. Before it was to make sure the only the originator could lay claim to benefiting from creating something, but since the mid-1990's the idea of an intellectual estate has been brewing with archivists being the new foot soldiers of cataloguing everything and writing policies to make sure that ownership is protected in laws which prohibit the free distribution of information for the well-being of society.
3D printers can be made to make guns and knives. Deep Fakes can be made to produce disgusting pornography. Recipes can make mind altering and dangerous drugs. Manifestos can radicalise impressionable minds.
Won't someone think of the children?
How and where this goes is anyone's guess but the idea is that you'll have everything you need without owning anything - there's no need to.
Of course that won't extend to those who actually do the owning They'll definitely want you to keep your grubby little paws away from their stuff. But they'll want you to see that they have it
And that is why the whole thing is disingenuous and without a point. The bread and circuses should tide us over until the flames retake us and this merry little adventure will continue on just fine without ever remembering us

There has been talk for a long time now that the Mona Lisa in the Louvre in Paris is a forgery after its theft in 1911.
Whether there is any truth to it or not the entire concept of placing value on physical objects which can be easily recreated comes into question.
If the idea of the image is given value then posters, postcards, t-shirts and so on can be made which give the owner of the intellectual property (IP) a return on their investment. The idea itself is where the value lies and not in the physical manifestation of it. If someone copies that idea they need to pay for its use as if they have taken fiscal value from the IP owner.
If copyright is extended on IPs then any image, sound, text or formula is now the thing which is valued over it actually becoming an item in this universe.
Like physical money it has no practical use alone, but when used as an economy it can create a disparity between those who consider themselves owners of valuable ideas and those who must rent them to live.
In 100 years time someone can rent the ideas of all the components of a car to recreate a 'genuine' one. They can drive that car and enjoy all the perks that come associated with it. If someone else makes exactly the same car, but without the required paperwork to support that they have rented it from the IP owners they will be found to be criminal, even though they made every physical component themselves.
This is where the pharmaceutical companies in the US are just now with their drugs. They can claim ownership of a concept and charge as they see fit for it being made by those who rent the idea. But other countries can currently make those exact same drugs far cheaper as the ownership concept doesn't apply there.
You can see where that leads I'm sure

We are at that. And it raises some interesting issues. You could make the case that re-creating an antique auto exclusively out of perfectly duplicated parts is tantamount to common forgery. But even partial duplication of old, no-longer-available parts is pretty much a necessity in some cases. Certain parts of the motor or drive train, say, have to be replaced if you ever want to see the old gal chug down the highway again, like she was meant to do. Otherwise they'll all eventually end up as static displays somewhere.
(Oh, and speaking of forgeries… I've read that some museums actually have carefully-made duplicates of famous old paintings on display, while the real ones are carefully locked away somewhere, for security reasons.)

Yes. And TBH, if they were exact duplicates of original parts, how would you even know the difference - unless somebody told you?

Nobody ever talks about cars in movies, but lots of specialised car owners rent them out for a big pay packet for all the stories set in particular eras
I saw an interesting documentary about 15 years ago with Jay Leno talking about his car collection. He sees 3D printers being used to make casts for all of the components which are no longer made for cars. Allowing top quality replacements to be made which are in line with the originals. It's not for me but I think a good business could be made out of cataloguing all the cars and fixtures needed and keeping everything in top working order for period dramas and the like
I was lucky to be in a T1 and to give it a ride with all the original parts, but it's that whole Ship of Theseus again, isn't it

It wasn't mine. A couple of hillbilly hot rod lads had put it back together with original parts they'd collected over many years. They didn't let just anyone have a go in it though, they got to take a nice 1957 Ford Galaxie with a custom paint job for a spin by way of swapsies.
It was quite the experience

Not that particular car but I used to go to lots of classic car rallies and thought something from this year would be a good way to celebrate this thread reaching 100
I drove a Ford T1 at one of the rallies in Blackford, near Crieff in Scotland. This isn't a picture of that particular car but one for the members here to see what one looks like
Any particular significance to that ^ automobile?

The Chevy Monza… yeah, that's a blast from the past. I vaguely remember those. My next car after the Vega was a Chevy Nova Concours, but unfortunately it came with a gutless 250 cubic inch L6 engine. Not a real performance vehicle. Nice-looking car, though.
