I completely lose my appetite and have to force myself to eat anytime I'm going through something extremely sad or stressful so I really don't understand food at funerals either.

I know of a person's funeral where they were creamating someone next to the chapel and it stank during the service.

I never understood buffets at funerals. Who the hell wants to eat after burying/cremating a loved one?
And also, I find it weird that when someone gets cremated they don't actually get cremated on the day of their funeral. It's a random day after the event.

I usually just stop at McDonalds on the way to the gravesite and get a burger & fries, which I consume at the gravesite while everyone else stands around angry because they didn't have enough sense to make a stop off to get something for themselves.

I do. If it's been an emotional wake and I have cried my eyes out, then I usually need to rehydrate and somehow I am starving too. When I know the person, I don't consider it a corpse. It's a loved one.
On the Italian side of my family, there is an absurd amount of food after the wake.
There's usually lasagna, salad, lots of pastries.
