Language evolves. The English language, as it is now, is different than the English language 50 years ago, which was different 50 years before, with obvious national and regional variances, etc… Wads can try to formalize language as much as they want, but most people will not be aware of, or understand, it well enough to adhere. It will continually vary on micro-cultural levels, per imperfect understanding - and thus use - of that language, and periodically vary on a macro level as those imperfect understandings, for whatever reason, filter into the general lexicon. The very premise of the study of linguistics.
That said… I majored in Classics and scored "college graduate" language level in 1st grade on those dumb standardized tests they make you do. So, I love punctuation. ❤️
