Actually the boards have had trolls since they were set up. I've been posting using this account since 1999 and two years before that using another one, yes that's over two decades altogether, and like any other Internet forum they've ALWAYS had their share of bored teenagers and losers who lash out to make other people as miserable as they are.
That's not why the boards are closing.
They're closing because fewer people are using them. Tech has moved on and the forum has seen its heyday come and go. I've been on multiple forums that have seen the same drop in use now that people use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Some boards that used to pulse with conversation are now mostly dead.
I'll be sad when they roll it up, but when they do it won't be because of trolls.

Good riddance these boards are coming down. Since free speech is only useful for those who resort to personal attacks, name-calling, insults and other forms of indecency, sometimes censorship is the answer. Only then hopefully such bullies and trolls will realize that with free speech comes responsible behavior.

Exactly true. This decision by IMDB is rather pathetic. One gets the sense that "Hollywood" is just getting tired of hearing what people actually think of their products.

Blaming "trolls" and "bullies" is only an excuse.
