Several years ago I was hit with a startling revelation, which in the scheme of things should not have surprised me actually.
I began to see how sick the world is through posts I began to see from members here in IMDB if they could be called members.
The hate and nonsense that was being spewed was a shock to my system in realizing this is how people think and feel.
The parson I'm riding next to on the bus or train, the elevator at work, that I'm serving or is serving me.
IMDB used to be a place where you could have open discussion about films, TV shows and entertainment. Where you could reminisce with members about childhood nostalgia we shared on those same forums, Where you could agree to disagree with out it degenerating into childish, biased hateful attacks.
The boards slowly became an infestation of trolls that made just about every board a head ache to look for or start a good conversation.
There have been various reasons offered up as to why IMDB has decided to close the boards, most of which have validity but there is no denying that trolls that have turned many boards into a cesspool of nonsense play a large part.
I had fun discussing entertainment here, childhood television and movies and finding members that were like minded or differed in opinion respectfully.
Although I'd begun missing the community this once was, I'm going to really miss that it's gone.
Thank you IMDB.

Removing all the boards doesn't have to be the solution to trolls. IMDB could have deleted the most troll-visited boards and kept the 'normal' ones. Why remove all the boards? For example, you don't need a sandbox board on a movie website.
It feels like IMDB has the website equivalent of a cut on the knee but instead of treating the cut they've decided: "let's remove the entire leg, that will remove the pain!"
It's just dumb.
Many IMBD users feel terribly let down and many won't visit the site after the boards shut. They'll go elsewhere I reckon, so IMDB will lose out in the long term. If you treat the customer like crap you're gonna lose out.
