I completely agree with you when it comes to this situation being a clear representation of where society is headed, at lightning speed to boot.
I would not be comfortable, even remotely, to ever refer to someone by their first name unless and until we become very good friends, spent time and effort mutually building a relationship where the boundaries are set and established.
When I was taking some college classes a while back, absolutely every teacher had to be referred to as Miss, Ms, Mrs, or Mister, followed by their first name or last name. For example, I had a great anatomy teacher who insisted on being called "Miss Marie." In these particular classes, there were students there who were her age. That being said, there's a distinction that must be made because the teachers are in a position of authority and power, and for students to refer to them using just their first name would be quite disrespectful.
I could never bring myself to refer to the mothers of anyone I dated by their first name. Ever! They were always "Mrs. ________" or most often, "Mom."
I also think you may be onto something when it comes to things like the stifling of non-reactive speech resulting in the production of confused students who will be entering an even more confusing world.

I think this is a perfect example of the current sequence of the world going in oblivion. Where I’m at people refer to everyone by their first names no matter who or what you are. Otherwise it’s seen as odd, and such extremities are not considered. Ma’am by many woman around the world is considered disrespectful.
Even if it was true how he was using it. It’s such an extremity by their part that it shows how worst they are ****ed up where they would cost this guy his job, and a living over such nonsense. Given the context, this was how he addressed a group of women, he couldn't even have said, "you women." That sounds creepy and worse.
