Constable Jonathan Anderson's account of the Peterloo Massacre - read by Eddie Kelsey. Part of the Archives Alive: Peterloo project.
After the massacre the Home Secretary ordered evidence be gathered about the events leading up to and during what was soon being dubbed the Peterloo Massacre. Many of the accounts attempt to retrospectively justify the actions of the magistrates and the yeomanry cavalry. While accounts such as Anderson's contrast dramatically with accounts of survivors and many other onlookers, they are still valuable for historians - capturing the official attempt to control the story after the event.
