I was watching this story on CBS Evening News last night.
https://www.cbsnews.com/video/program-teaches-philadelphia-kids-life-lessons-through-polo/#x
It's about an organization that gives kids exposure to a sport the otherwise would have access to. A seemingly very nice story. Then, right there at the end. There it is: "I really hope that there are little boys and girls in the crowd that look just like us." Not kids who don't have access to an opportunity, kids that look like her. Black people. Based on nothing more than race.
What the **** are we doing? I was raised in an era where we were taught NOT to deny or judge people because they don't look like us. That looking like me was irrelevant, because their character is what matters, not looks. Now it's all about race. We seek out and/or reward people based specifically on race. This is racism. It's segregation. And our society rewards it.

I am more bothered at the use of horses for humans.
They should all be left alone in the wild and not be used for us at all and certainly not for the cruel "sport" of polo.
Animal use and cruelty should not be taught to children.
"Please vote to preserve the unique character of Warren…" - Robert Duvall

Exactly!
Like you said, everything is being reduced to what people look like. We're going backwards as a society. This mindset has become so much more prevalent in the last 10 years. It's depressing as hell.

That's true. But you see, they're taught to think that black people are intentionally being kept away from doing things such as playing Polo, because of their race. So they make a big deal about it. They think it's a conspiracy to keep blacks away from things, hence the importance to them of a black face being in the crowd - whitey ain't stopping us anymore.
Now it's all about race. We seek out and/or reward people based specifically on race. This is racism. It's segregation. And our society rewards it
We get that **** over here in europe. Like when a womens soccer team won a match, a presenter complained that the whole team was white:

Humans are tribal. All races and ethnicites do it. Italians can be some of the biggest offenders of it; particularly the stereotypical guido mafia type (not just people who are Italian).
And it's never going to go away either. People will always lump themselves together by race.
It's why there are sections of cities and towns, and housing developments that are loaded with Asians and Indians. It's why my neighborhood where I grew up was loaded with Polish immigrants. A bunch of Polish people years ago picked that as a landing spot and because Polish people live there already more came and continue to do so.
But black people do it differently. They proudly boast they want people to succeed for no other reason than they "look like" them. It's pathetic and racist. Many are actually pro-segregation no when their relatives from past generations simply wanted to be treated equally.

I believe it has to do with the way it used to be… that blacks were thought of as lesser than and the segregation that went on
Actually, Italians and the Irish faced prejudice as well. Black people were very much treated as less than human and they are wanting to be surrounded by their own, and want their children growing up with good self esteem
If we take the time to see with the heart and not with the mind, we shall see that we are surrounded completely by angels ~ Carlos Santana

We're not all the same, but I understand your sentiment and you are right.
There's nothing wrong with celebrating your heritage. Food festivals, beer, clothing, dances, whatever - it's really cool to see how it formed and was/is celebrated around the world. I grew up in a neighborhood that was predominantly Irish and Italian American, but also had a very robust Polish population. For whatever reason, it became a landing spot for Polish immigrants. There's Polish bakeries, delis, and places that sell pierogies and kielbasa. I still eat those things to this day because of my exposure to it as a kid.
But black people… they just do it differently. Watch that video I posted. She wants to see other kids that "look like" her watching and joining the polo club. Not anyone/everyone, but BLACK kids. That's simply racist and our society allows black people to do it.
