I thought Seth Rogen was perfect as the weisenheimer voice of Paul.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.

I enjoyed Seth. I think his voice and personality fit into what the movie was supposed to be instead of any other actor.

I liked the character of Paul more than I thought I would on my first viewing a couple of years ago, but I watched it again last night and felt very aware that they should have used a different actor. The voice (and Rogen's typical portrayal in film) kind of suited the character they were going for, but Seth Rogen doesn't strike me as a voice actor. I think one of the problems is that I read that he was off filming Green Hornet during the filming of Paul so he had to put a lot of the voice in at the end - it might have been a bit better if he was more involved in the process, doing the mo-cap and whatnot.
I think the reason I liked Paul so much was because of the writing, not necessarily Seth Rogen's presence. I think with a different actor it could have been really amazing.

I'd agree. I'm just watching it now I don't personally recognise Seth Rogen's voice, but just based on his performance I think he wasn't the best choice.
I keep thinking of someone like John Goodman, who is an accomplished voice actor and can bring tones of rough humour and an eff-you attitude into his voice at the drop of a hat. His voice is probably even more identifiable than Rogen's, but at least it would work better for the character.

I thought when I saw Seth in Kung Fu Panda they were over-saturating him, but nobody could have been more perfect in this. Paul is a super intelligent stoner just like Seth. And Seth really has very subtle nuances to the way he plays the more heartfelt aspects of all his characters.

I think Rogen was totally wrong for this part. He's not a voice actor, and is basically just being Seth Rogen instead of a character. His voice is pretty distinct, so I can't help but be distracted with the thought "Oh that's Seth Rogen" as I watch. His delivery also sucks, ruining what probably would have been funny lines coming from the mouth of someone British.

Well, considering Rogen tended to be typecast as a happy-go-lucky slacker up until this movie, it seems appropriate that he'd portray the voice of Paul(a character cut from that same cloth as Rogen's previous roles). Although, to be fair, I can understand another poster's misgivings of having such a robust voice coming from such a frail looking alien; then again, Paul is supposed to be well-hung sothere you go. lol

I'm pretty neutral on the voice.by now. I do remember at first viewing it felt off. But by now I don't care. I think my original hopes had been due to Seth MacFarlane's voice & the quirks he gives Roger. I suspect others had similar expectations.

Wow. I guess I'm in the minority here. I thought Seth Rogan brought
a neccessary lightness/crudeness to the character of Paul and I couldn't
imagine anyone else fitting into that role. For some reason though, I wish
they could have found a role for Dr. Ken somewhere in the film for added hilarity.that guy is awesome!

For some reason I imagine Paul Goodman as his voice, I don't think people would agree, but I just imagine it.

I agree, he was riding the wave of success from Superbad, Knocked up etc. and I don't think his voice quite fits a 4 foot alien somehow. I am not sure who I would have chosen instead though, any thoughts?
