Usually, TV stars eventually get bored with the character they’re playing and either hang in there until the end, or leave? But continuing the character in a spinoff is unheard of, especially if it’s the top-billed star. I can somewhat understand if AITF had a short run, but nine seasons would normally trigger the show’s cash cow to throw in the towel. Jaleel White’s nine seasons as Steve Urkel, is a good example. He stayed with the show, unlike Jason Priestly who left the ten-seasoned “90210” just five episodes into the ninth season.

They neutered the character. His flaws made him hilarious. Archie Bunker's Place was just plain dull. I mean, Archie without Edith, come on. That alone is blasphemy.

But he wasn’t the star like Ted Danson who obviously got more screen time than Kelsey Grammer. Thus, Ted throwing in the towel.
