In this movie: They didn't give two ****s about the Douglas character.
However, he did in his psychopathic state.
He had more compassion with his gun then the lazy ass stupid kid workers.
After all, they didn't him seriously until he pulled the gun out.

They deserve a little fear…all the man wanted was breakfast in his bleakest moment.

It's been awhile since I've seen this.
Everyone is a prick except him.

He is a disappointed, damaged man. The film implies a difficult childhood resulting in a simmering violence. His Mother and ex-wife are afraid of him and a veteran cop recognises the pattern and anticipates the consequences of his slow-burn, about to go postal, break down.
It's a really good film and in a generally unappreciated way, a comment on the times it was made. But this is not a man standing up for himself or a good cause in the classic sense. This is a guy on a rampage, which we enjoy because he's taking out the bad guys, but he's a trigger pull away from a mass shooting.
I have always depended on the kindness of Strangers - and the bastards let me down!

This is Michael Douglas best picture for sure.

And he doesn't treat women awful like some of unsavory characters in the film.
He's just a middle aged man trying to give his daughter a present.
But life wouldn't let him.

The guy in the military store wanted to help him.

Every character tried to screw him.
Every one of them!

He was standing up not going down…until
the end
