It may have been my Scottish, English, and Irish ancestry that has drawn me to this wonderful film. This is the second time I've watched it, and I can't get enough of the feeling of the location and the scenery. I've never been to the British Isles, but long to go there someday and experience the feeling that this film gives me. I can almost smell the sea air and feel the wind on my face. It's also a lovely story.

It's an odd film - a bit stiff and stagey perhaps, but also beautifully framed with two very watchable leads plus a captivating Pamela Brown. It may not be the best Powell and Pressburger but for several years it's been my favourite.
I have always depended on the kindness of Strangers - and the bastards let me down!

I just got it from Netflix and will watch it tonight. I adore Wendy Hiller. I hope I enjoy the movie as much as you two!

It's been my favorite film for twenty years. I bought the Criterion dvd two months before I had anything to play it on!
