I saw Dogville couple of years ago and absolutely hated it. I am thinking of giving him another chance. What should I watch next?

I've only seen a few of his films, but of those, all but one, I have watched multiple times. My favourites would be:
Dancer in the Dark
Melancholia
Antichrist
Nymphomaniac Vol I & II
(but it's really important to get the extended versions because the scenes they cut are actually very pivotal to get into the intensity of motivation and mindset of Joe). Block off several hours and try to watch them back-to-back if possible. The ending is crushing.
Dogville
Of course, one reason I'm fond of some of these movies is because I
really
like Charlotte Gainsbourg.
"Your emotional state is not my responsibility." – Warren Smith

i find lars is usually going for a subversive or traumatic experience on screen.
so he needs characters people can identify with so they can find meaning in their suffering.
but in the end, as much as it may make the viewer think they've accomplished from the safety of their movie chair, it's not even comparable to they type of real growth a person would find in the real world. just a hollow simulation.
people who watch these movies think it makes them smarter or whatever, but it really just makes them dumber because they think they've found a hack to finding earned wisdom and knowledge through these curated stories of suffering. then they go back and try to apply what they've learned there in the real world with their particular context and get mad how it always blows up in their faces.

Dancer in the Dark
remains the #1 worst movie I've ever seen (which is REALLY saying something), and all of his other movies are terrible pretentious garbage as well. Lars von Tryhard is the absolute embodiment of everything that gives arthouse cinema a bad name.

When it comes to Danish filmmakers, I've seen 3 films by Thomas Vinterberg - The Celebration, Hunt and Another Round. I thought all of them were great.

Before I go way off topic… Kingdom Hospital was terrible. Haven't seen the original. Melancholia is rad!
Anyway, do you remember the website Nicolas Winding Refn had a few years ago? As I recall, it was him curating old, obscure movies and, along with streams of the movies there were essays, interviews, and all sorts of things. Anyway, there was one movie in particular from the '60s that was shot by student filmmakers very near where I live. I'd never heard of it before and it's available nowhere else. Here at least. It's on Blu Ray in Europe.

Say, do you like Nicolas Winding Refn movies? He's got a bit if a legendary rivalry with von Trier but if you like surreal feel films he might be another one to watch. Not weird in a Lynch way, but he definitely has a trippy quality to his films. Dream like.

Hmmm. It's very different in colour palette, but it is similar in its unsettling, wierd vibe. It is a little anxiety inducing though, and I can't really put my finger on why. I think it's the atmosphere that has that natural effect. But not in a major way (like Uncut Gems, for example). It's just that creeping anxious feeling always in the background.
But yeah, I would definitely recommend this to Twin Peaks fans.

The "Danskjävlar" routine is something we always reference here, when light heartedly bullying the Danes.

I love his work usually, but I didn't like Dogville. I would say Dancer in the Dark, Breaking the Waves, Melancholia and The House That Jack Built are worth trying. I love those movies. But I wonder if you have to like his style to appreciate them. And if it's his style you don't like then you probably won't like any of his movies.
If it's mostly the stark, stage set up of Dogville that you hated, that isn't present in these.
