Her brother has a brain tumor and her mother was spending the money Leighton sent her to look after him on botox etc.
''According to the suit obtained by TMZ Leighton's mom refused to work, but Leighton felt badly for her younger brother Lex, who has severe medical issues. So Leighton sent her mom $7,500 a month so she could provide for Lex.
But the suit claims the mother, Constance Meester, used the money for cosmetic procedures and other personal expenses.
According to the suit, Constance even tried to convince Leighton they had an oral contract requiring Leighton to pay her $10,000 a month for life. Leighton says it's a total lie.
Leighton claims her mom threatened to file a $3 million lawsuit against her unless Leighton started coughing up the dough.
Leighton wants the judge to declare there's no contract between her and her mom.''

Why does a brain tumor patient need 7500$ per month, anyway ?
I know cancer patients in my country. Some of them received medicamentation for over a million euro. They didnt had to pay anything for it themselves. Its a damn human right.

Leighton Meester's mother is an uneducated, self-indulgent, ex-convict in her 50s whose job choices are very limited due to her long criminal record (she doesn't want to clean motel rooms for the rest of her life) so she "exploits" her daughter and her acting career. Sadly, Leighton isn't alone for there are dozens (possibly hundreds) of parents out there who try to exploit their children's careers for their own personal agenda.
Gary Coleman is another perfect example where his adoptive parents philfered his trust fund while he was still in his teens during his early career on "Diff'erent Strokes" so they could never work and live off his salary, and how he sued them (as well as his agent, manager, lawyer, accountant) for stealing large numbers of money from his trust fund totaling $3.8 million over a period of 10 years (he won a $1,280,000 judgement from a long litigation trial).
Leighton has every right never to talk to or make contact with her mother ever again. (I would).

Fame hasn't gone to her head!
IF Ifound out that my mother was spending the money I was giving her to take
care of my brother was being wasted I would stop giving money to her, instead I would give the money to the younger brother.
From what I've heard the mother was in the wrong and Leighton is just doing what is fair for her behalf,is that so wrong? If Leighton's brother needs medical help I'm sure Leighton would assist in the meidical expences.

Leighton's brother had a brain tumor when he was five months old. it's ridiculous to say that Leighton gave her mom money for his medical expenses seventeen years later. He had another surgery in May2011 for a completely unrelated brain issue called trigeminal neuralgia, and one month later Leighton decided to cut him out of her life, including cancelling his medical insurance. Her mom has dismissed any case against Leighton and is trying to take care of her brother with absolutely no help from anyone. Leighton needs to stop taking advice from greedy Hollywood leeches and remember the family who stood by her when she had nothing. It's a shame success has gone to her head.

I'm definitely feeling sympathy for Leighton and her brother.
I'm surprised Leighton's always smiling; She must be really strong. That's definitely inspiring.

The mother seems pretty horrible - then again isn't she a criminal? Leighton doesn't have to pay anything for her or the brother, anything she's doing is nice but she shouldn't be forced to shell out for it.

Very true but in some cases, such as this, a court can deem an adult unable to take care of themselves due to health issues, in which case he would have to have a legal guardian or care taker of sorts. If that is the case, and I'm not saying it is, they would have to look at Leighton's ability to take care of him in order to deem her the title of care taker or what have you, and with the fact that she is an actress and is probably gone more than she is home, it would take a lot for the courts to look past that and give her custody rights. This is just a possibility though.

What a bitch using the money Leighton specifically earmarked for her brothers care for her own greed?
This is the woman who gave birth to Leighton while in PRISON!!!!!!
Leighton is beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside, you can bet shed be taking care of her little bro if she wasnt a successful actress or if she wasnt as busy shed take him from her mom.
If Leighton hit her with a bottle, you can bet she deserved it.

Its horrible to think someone would use their sons health care money like that as well.
You can bet your bottom dollar that Leighton would be taking care of her brother 24/7 if she weren't a successful actress. That's just how she comes off to me.
