<p dir="auto">Most likely, the son told his father about it, and he couldn't believe it and thus felt supremely guilty for allowing it to happen in the first place. The plot device happened because he finally figured it out, having experienced the same thing. Nobody else seemed to understand. That was the confirmation he needed before proceeding further.<br />
