the incredibly beautiful Victoria Shaw would remain in a dying town. Poor Cornell Wilde. Whenever she was in a scene with him, he disappeared.
The aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed and clamorous to be led to safety.

I think she is as much real as she is a projection of his dead wife. Notice just the way she is introduced, out of nowhere, top of Guano Point. What would she even be doing there.
However, taken at face value, they are boths trapped in the past, her in the former wealth he in the dead wife, and in the end in the cable tram, he closes the door on both of them and they hang in the grey sky. Unresolved. Absolutely beautiful, Don.

I am surprised Shaw did not get to have more of a film career.
It's that man again!!

Thanks for the information on Victoria Shaw. I thought that she did some fine acting in the movie as well as being eye candy.

Victoia Shaw (real name: Jeanette Elphick) didn't make many movies. She was an Australian who after a modest stage and screen career in her native country went to Hollywood where she was signed by Columbia and made her film debut in
The Eddy Duchin Story
(1956), with Tyrone Power, a commercial success which should have pushed her career along. But she didn't make another film until
EOE
, followed by
The Crimson Kimono
, a good Sam Fuller film but not a major blockbuster, and other lesser films such as
Because They're Young
and
I Aim at the Stars
. After that her career just wound down, with scattered TV appearances and very occasional movies, into the 1970s. She eventually returned to Australia where, sadly, she died in 1988 at the age of 53.
Her first husband was Roger Smith, who after their divorce in 1965 married (and is still married to) Ann-Margret.

Victoria Shaw is certainly eye-catching. I'm surprised that she didn't have more of a career. This is the first movie that I've seen her in.

She
didn't live in a dying town. She lived nearby but there was exciting Kingman to keep her entertained if needed. Besides, the area in and around the Grand Canyon is exquisitely beautiful and peaceful (usually), and since her family was there and she likes the place, why not remain? Not everyone needs to move to L.A or Vegas or New York, or even Phoenix. Not even a good-looking woman. For the kinds of things she liked and wanted she made the right decision by staying.
And I think Cornel Wilde more than held his own throughout.
