For a moment there, while their father was giving that last speech, apologizing to his children, I was worried that they would forgive him and they'd all be a happy family and put everything behind. Or at least that they'd accept his apology and be willing to work on forgiving him. I just think that would have been too soon and too weird.
That's why I was so happy when Mikael kinda just dismissed the father like 'nice speech, but it's time for you to go so we can enjoy our breakfast in peace'.
It was like a reminder that 'you disgust everyone in here and there is no way you're going to sit here with us and enjoy your breakfast like everything is fine now that you've finally confessed and apologized'. And his wife FINALLY decided to stand up for her kids and not take his side. It was great.
It was the only really redeeming thing Mikael did during the whole movie. Same for the mother.

I totally agree. The mother was as responsible for this as her husband.

I agree except for one point: I was expecting the children to ask the mother to leave too. Stating that she 'never stood up for them' is not correct. What we can derive from the earlier speeches, is that the mother let the father's perversive missteps happen although she could've prevented them. She has no legit excuse for this and is therefore more of an accomplice then she is a victim.
