The John Byrne era onwards they tried to make Clark the dominant person and have a romance build between him and Lois, which we got in Lois & Clark, Smallville, Superman & Lois and My Adventures With Superman.

Why would she want Clark? He's a fake personality. Superman is interesting, because Clark Kent is his actual secret identity, not the other way around like most of these guys. He's an alien hiding among humans. A huge catfish.
