I liked the gay joke at the end. It was funny and totally unexpected.

They barely reference the fact and it is to point out his boyfriend loves movies. It isn't like the girl tried to kiss him and he responds, I have a boyfriend. It is a very innocent throw away line.

I shall ask a question. I know why Agatha cursed those people in the court. Because she was murdered by them So what is the curse of Agatha? I mean what happened to those murdered her? What is the effect of the curse on those people?

How ironic, a little girl was killed, there were scary zombies, a curse but it was a guy saying he has a boyfriend bothered you. Pathetic.

Well it had the desired effect on me and made me LAUGH.
Come on, she throws herself at him all movie (and, let's face it, neither of them are exactly blessed with any kind of intelligence) only for him to give her that throwaway shocker at the end of the movie.
V. Funny

The audience knows that we should accept everyone, no matter how different they are from what we consider 'normal.' However, by adding the gay joke the makers wanted to confront the audience. Are you really THAT accepting?
Which is why I love that my nieces, and little sister never really even batted an eye at Mitch's reveal. They laughed that he was taken, but had no negative reaction to him.

The reason they made Mitch gay, in my opinion, is to see if the audience had learned a lesson. We see how wrong the angry crowd was by trying to blame Norman for the zombie invasion and trying to attack him. They were looking for a scapegoat and targeted the one who was different. Even after the zombies are gone they blame their behaviour on mob mentality.

They obviously have not learned the simple lesson of accepting those who are different from you. That's why this 'joke' was actually a powerful message.

You missed the point of the joke as well as the movie's morals entirely then. Not surprised with someone of your brain cell can't handle.

It's very much in the spirit of the movie but I have to wonder how it was dubbed internationally. For example, it may have been a reference to him having a girlfriend in a place like Russia where the studio could be fined otherwise.

It's rather sad that so many adults missed out on the message of the movie.

It was a gloating kind of move, at least that's how it came off.
Actually, it's just a twist on the classic scenario of a person chasing after another person for the entire story only to find out at the end that they're already seeing someone.
